Last year when I heard of the dozen people who skated from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv on Yom Kippur, I wanted to join. But skating down the hills (called "mountains" here) of Jerusalems would have result in my imminent death, and so I stayed and skated around Tel Aviv instead. This year, having had a full year to practice my stopping skills, I was excited to join.
I met up with the rest of the insane asylum at the Western Wall in Jerusalem. After paying our respects to the holiest place at the holiest city at the start of the holiest day in the year, we waited until nightfall. Then when the flow of traffic trickled down to a minimum, we began the trek from the mountain top of Jerusalem to the sea coast of Gosh Dan. Total distance for me was about 70km, and included two crazy down hills, and a handful of less than easy uphills. We all made it back alive (some with minor scratches), and I was in bed and asleep by around 11pm.
